On November 2, 2004, Susan J. Rosowski, Adele Hall Distinguished Professor of English at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the General Editor of the Willa Cather Scholarly Edition and Cather Studies, and the founding editor of the Willa Cather Archive died at her home in Garland, Nebraska. Sue's insight, leadership, and generosity will be profoundly missed.

Sue's family honored her wishes and established an endowment fund with the University of Nebraska Foundation to support Cather studies, programs, research, and research materials.
